My time with Overwatch 2 won’t last forever, but I’ve already seen enough to know that when the single</del>-<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">player portion drops</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">I’ll be right at the front of the l</del>

Overwatch <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">is dead</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Long live </del>Overwatch 2. The sequel <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">has already garnered more than 25 million players so we’re going to keep a close eye on what this burgeoning community gets up to. From early bugs to progression woes and players not playing </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">damn game properly, here’s everything of note </del>that <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">happened in </del>Overwatch <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">2 last w</del>

<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">I didn’t care much when Overwatch 2 launched. I fell off the original game a while ago</del>, and <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">it seemed like switching to a sequel when the game functioned perfectly in the </del>live-service <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">space was not only </del>a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">bad idea</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">but downright irritating to players who needed to transfer over their data, own the correct type of phone, not to mention that the original version was shut down forever</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Despite all </del>that, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">I’ve been hooked back in like a Roadhog victim, but I’m not sure how much longer </del>that <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">can last. I think I’m ready for the single-player campaign now, ple</del>

<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Overwatch 2 has just had its biggest week since launch</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Not only did Blizzard unveil </del>a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">new Hero</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">but we also witnessed </del>a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">cracker </del>of <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">a match for </del>the Overwatch <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">League Grand Final. However</del>, it <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">appears that </del>it<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">'s still finding its feet when it comes </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Hero balancing, as well as </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">in-game store economy</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Some aspects were so imbalanced that yet another Hero needed </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">be temporarily remo</del>

<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Of course, single-player gets me back instantly</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">I love Overwatch’s aesthetic and it plays well, even if I’m not on a level </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">dominate every match-up</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Being able </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">make my way through a campaign, flitting between heroes, going </del>at <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">my own pace</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">not worrying about teammates… that all sounds like the ideal way to play</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">I get Agents </del>of <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Mayhem vibes from </del>it <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">all, and as one of planet Earth’s few Agents of Mayhem defenders , that’s no bad th</del>

<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">One game mode has </del>a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">bunch of Meis having a snowball fight; </del>it's <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">fun, but it can be rather repetitive</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">The Yeti mode is </del>a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">bit more interesting</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">with one player alone as an overpowered Winston fighting the enemy team. Some maps also get snow on them</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">which adds to the theme of Christmas as w</del>

<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Blizzard revealed a new Tank class Hero for Overwatch 2 called Ramattra </del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Giving off Indian God vibes – thanks to </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">slight resemblance to Shiva and with 'Ram' </del>in <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">his name – his backstory revealed a close relationship with Zenyatta and the Omnic people</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">He comes with two different forms that can be changed on the fly – the offensive Nemesis form which gives him access </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">powerful punches</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">and the defensive Omnic form </del>that <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">gives him </del>a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">barrier to protect his team</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">He’ll join </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">roster on Decembe</del>

<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Patches are par for </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">course in gaming these days</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">While your live-service behemoths are always tinkering with the meta</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">keeping gameplay fresh</del>, and <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">fixing all </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">bugs those first two fixes cause</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">even the smallest single-player titles come with constant post-launch care these days</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Day one patch is now </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">norm, and while games like Cyberpunk 2077 which launch in historically unacceptable states benefit greatly from devs now being able </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">fix things </del>in the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">wild</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">it’s unlikely Cyberpunk would have launched at all if </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">studio knew </del>it <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">would be stuck with what it had</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">On </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">whole, patches offer </del>a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">safety net that’s good </del>to the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">industry</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">but it sometimes feels like they take away </del>a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">game’s personal</del>

<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Overwatch 2 is free-to-play</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">which some think justifies Blizzard shuttering the original. It doesn’t</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">but here we </del>are. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Some Overwatch 2 players think the community is actually more toxic now than </del>it <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">was before . With more players being able to dip their toes </del>in <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">without any investment at all, it is possible that more are taking part just to troll oth</del>

<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">After almost a month of this</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">players are calling </del>for <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">change. Many are complaining that Zarya is the most overpowered Hero </del>in the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">game</del>, and <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">the most </del>in <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">need </del>of a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">nerf</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">And unlike with other heroes</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">it actually seems to be the Zarya mains themselves leading the charge</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">as they're sick </del>and <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;"> [https://overwatch2tactics.com/ https://overwatch2Tactics.Com/] tired of playing the same Hero every ma</del>

<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Things only got worse when players found out that they would have </del>to grind <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">all </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">way to level 55 - which is over halfway - </del>on <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">the </del>Overwatch 2 <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Battle Pass to get access to Ramattra, much like Kiriko. Many accused Blizzard of making it </del>so <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">that players would need to pay for the premium pass </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">catch</del>

Everything must be realistic, atmospheric, and other vague adjectives taken from focus groups and written on white boards. It might remain as a callback, but if it does it will be an exception to the rule. Any of these sorts of things left in by mistake tend to be taken out immediately because players having fun in their own way isn’t part of the developers’ vision. Any way you find to exploit something, even in a single-player experience where no one else is impacted, is viewed as a mistake to be fi
<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Luckily, however</ins>, it <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">seems that fans will be getting their wish soon. The next big update is coming November 15</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">and will nerf Zarya in several different ways</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">For starters</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">the Barrier's duration is going back down to two seconds</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">as </ins>it <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">was in the first Overwatch</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">On top of that, </ins>it <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">will now </ins>have <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">an eleven</ins>-<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">second cooldown</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">stopping you from spamming it so much in bat</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">And finally, some stores have been spotted selling copies of the original </ins>Overwatch<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">, a game that no longer exists . You may think you played it, but you didn’t, it’s gone</ins>. Overwatch 2 <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">has risen from its grave. I mean that</ins>. The sequel <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">occupies </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">same space in your hard drive </ins>that <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">the first </ins>Overwatch

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Patches are here to stay in gaming</ins>, and <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">they are important for fixing huge errors, balancing </ins>live-service <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">games, and removing online exploits being constantly abused. They also help games ship on time then get </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">little polish here</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">a little spit shine there later on</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">But it’s increasingly obvious </ins>that <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">games are afraid to be imperfect</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">and </ins>that <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">risks making them bor</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Of course, the problem is ours as much as theirs</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">When I was </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">kid I tried to move the truck to get Mew. I can’t remember where I heard it. These days though</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">our access to the internet and sprawling growth of online communities means myths are never formed and secrets are always shared. The Mei bug is not just a gimmick </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">few kids found that slowly makes its way through groups </ins>of <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">friends, but is instantly broadcast by </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">biggest </ins>Overwatch <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">accounts</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">leading to everyone knowing </ins>it<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">, everyone spamming Mei, and Blizzard feeling </ins>it <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">has to step

The company has also had </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">reduce </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Cleaning House weekly challenge from 20 to ten team kills </ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">20 is an astronomically high number to expect from people when it’s easier </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">coordinate ferrets than Overwatch play</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Mei has recently been pulled from [https://overwatch2Tactics.com/ Overwatch 2 events|https://Overwatch2tactics</ins>.<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Com/] 2 for two weeks because players were using her wall to reach places they weren’t meant </ins>to. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Maybe this is too much </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">tolerate </ins>at <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">the highest competitive levels</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">but mostly I just think ‘who cares?’</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Didn’t they just nerf Mei out </ins>of <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">existence anyway? Is </ins>it <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">really that big a deal that you can mess around on some m</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">I think I speak for most Overwatch 2 players when I say that Zarya is </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">pain in the ass. Whether you're against her or even playing as her, </ins>it's <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">frustrating just how essential she has become </ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">If you want </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">chance at winning</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">you better make her your Tank</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">otherwise you're just asking for trou</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">"Disable voice chat and text chat from other players. Just do it</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Your mental health is important, so why flip </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">coin?" says Reddit user BubblineKiss1000 over </ins>in <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">r/Overwatch</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">"I've been told </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">kill myself</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">[told </ins>that<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">] I'm dogshit, </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">slut</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">All </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">insults you can imagine, and for wh
</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Part of </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">tinkering feels like vanity too</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">In Horizon Forbidden West </ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Aloy was too chatty when she was alone </ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">remarking that items will be sent back to storage (somehow?) </ins>and <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">repeating </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">same few lines over and over. People said it was annoying</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">so it was taken out</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">But surely they knew it was annoying? Surely part of </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">point was </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">make Aloy endearing </ins>in <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">this way? I’m sure people think Aloy shutting </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">hell up is an improvement</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">but mostly it just feels like fixing something for </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">sake of </ins>it. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">It doesn’t feel like developers have </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">license to be creative and eccentric if </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">few people joking around online is enough for the studio </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">mandate changing </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">game. Gaming is becoming more risk averse</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">not less, in the presence of </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">constant safety
</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Every game has bugs at launch</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">but in a competitive team shooter</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">ultimates being broken </ins>are <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">a cause for concern</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Cassidy’s High Noon looks bugged, as </ins>it <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">completely missed its targets </ins>in <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">some player’s games - not very deadeye cowboy of </ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Playing support in Overwatch is like crawling through mousetraps to help your little brother up after he’s fallen</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">only </ins>for <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">him to kick you </ins>in the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">face and call you a twat. It’s a thankless job, no matter how much you heal</ins>, and <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">if you’re playing with randoms, you’ll often be hung out to dry </ins>in <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">front </ins>of <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">an ulting Moira and </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">hook-happy Roadhog</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">I swore off the role a couple of years ago</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">but Kiriko has roped me right back in</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">angry chat messages </ins>and <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">thanks-spamming teammates be dam</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">"Remember how fun it was </ins>to grind <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">out loot boxes for holiday events?" says Reddit user Lord-Canti. "Like when </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Christmas event was going </ins>on <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">you'd see everyone running around showing off their new Christmas skins and emotes? It was great but now you just get a measly amount of credits for doing annoying weekly challenges. </ins>Overwatch 2 <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">feels </ins>so <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">unrewarding </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">pl</ins>

But Kiriko hasn’t ended up like Moira - at least, not yet. The ease </del>of <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">being able </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">jump between damage and healing is similar there</del>, but <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">the DPS doesn’t outclass the healing </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">such an extent </del>that <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">it’s worth dropping altogether. Overwatch having set heroes takes away from the meta and the stress of having to care about loadouts</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">and means you can pick to a certain extent based on personality</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">The reason I play as Ashe is as much because </del>I love <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">westerns </del>and <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">wry cowgirls as </del>it <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">is her gameplay abilities</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Overwatch’s aesthetic, low barrier </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">entry</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">and quick</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">varied matches means it’s keeping </del>my <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">interest longer than other online games do. TheGamer is going to have its </del>own <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Overwatch showdown soon too</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">so I need to keep up even if I won’t dominate </del>the way I <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">did on Tekken nig</del>

<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Whether I bother in competitive with support is up in the air right now. It’s still </del>a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">headache dealing with angry and ungrateful teammates who splinter across the map and somehow expect to get healed all at once</del>, but <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">at least now I’m enjoying the role again</del>. The <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">rush of scrambling to a critical marker to fill up their health bar while fighting back enemies </del>is <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">exhilarating in </del>a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">way you just don’t feel </del>with <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">DPS, and </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">key role you play in ensuring your team’s survival is a wholly unique responsibility</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">I doubt I’ll ever be a Mercy main again or voluntarily choose healer with my friends when Roadhog and Orisa are right there for </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">taking, but at least I know that if I gotta pick healer, I have someone I’ll actually enjoy play</del>

<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Indeed, </del>Overwatch 2 <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">did make it </del>a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">lot easier to communicate </del>with <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">your team without joining chat</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Now, even on console, you </del>can <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">start countdowns, point to particular areas </del>on the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">map</del>, and <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">single out which teammate you want to send </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">ping </del>to<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">. Ana players can even alert their </del>team <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">when they put an enemy to sleep, ensuring no one accidentally wakes them up</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">It's not clear if Blizzard did this because it knows how toxic its community can get, but it sure makes things eas</del>

<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">
On payload and other defend</del>-and-<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">attack maps, shield</del>-<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">based tanks are </del>now the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">best bet</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">leaving other picks less viable. It’s much harder to defend your team with a hook </del>and <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">some healing juice, but that’s no fault of tanks </del>like <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Roadhog - they’re not meant </del>to be the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">defenders</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">they’re there </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">draw aggro and punish lone wolves. It can still work playing offense-based tanks with </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">right player</del>, but it <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">takes </del>a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">lot of skill, and that means lower</del>-<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">ranked matches are a headache. You have </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">know how to push</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">stay alive, and defend </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">team all at once</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">and failing that brings everyone down</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Throw in a damage-focused healer and you have a constant stream of marching into </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">line of fire and then sitting in spectate waiting to respawn</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">There’s a reason team kills have become frequent enough </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">warrant </del>their <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">own challen</del>

<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">This is, </del>of <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">course</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">just a theory on how things have gotten so bad</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">It's possible </del>that the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">abuse will die down as Blizzard either puts stricter measures </del>in <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">place</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">or </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">attention dies down after the launch hype</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">In any case</del>, it<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">'s definitely tainting </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">game for many</del>, and <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">changing how it's played all toget</del>

<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Part of the tinkering feels like vanity too. In Horizon Forbidden West , Aloy was too chatty </del>when <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">she was alone , remarking </del>that <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">items will be sent back </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">storage (somehow?) and repeating </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">same few lines </del>over <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">and over. People said it was annoying, so it was taken out. But surely they knew it was annoying? Surely part of </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">point was </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">make Aloy endearing in this way? I’m sure people think Aloy shutting the hell up is an improvement</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">but mostly it just feels </del>like <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">fixing something for the sake </del>of it<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">. It doesn’t feel like developers have </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">license </del>to be <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">creative </del>and <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">eccentric </del>if <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">a few people joking around online is enough for </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">studio </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">mandate changing </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">game</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Gaming </del>is <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">becoming more risk averse</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">not less, in the presence of </del>a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">constant safety</del>

Overwatch 2 <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">is</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">surprisingly </ins>as <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">it sounds, 2022’s surprise package for me</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">It’s just Overwatch</ins>, and <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">I’ve played Overwatch before</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">so I shouldn’t be too shocked by any of it</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">But it has managed </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">pull me in in a way </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">lot </ins>of <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">games I had much higher hopes for have failed </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">do. My time with Overwatch 2 won’t last forever</ins>, but <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">I’ve already seen enough </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">know </ins>that <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">when the single</ins>-<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">player portion drops</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">I’ll be right at the front of </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">l</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Overwatch </ins>is <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">dead</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Long live </ins>Overwatch 2. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">The sequel has already garnered more than 25 million players so we’re going </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">keep </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">close eye on what this burgeoning community gets up to</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">From early bugs to progression woes and players not playing </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">damn game properly</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">here’s everything of note that happened in Overwatch 2 last w</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">I didn’t care much when </ins>Overwatch <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">2 launched. I fell off the original game a while ago, and it seemed </ins>like <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">switching </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">a sequel when the game functioned perfectly </ins>in the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">live-service space was not only </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">bad idea</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">but downright irritating to players who needed to transfer over their data</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">own the correct type of phone</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">not </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">mention that the original version was shut down forever. Despite all that, I’ve been hooked back </ins>in <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">like </ins>a Roadhog <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">victim, but I’m not sure how much longer that can last</ins>. I <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">think I’m ready for </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">single-player campaign now, ple

Overwatch 2 has just had its biggest week since launch. Not only did Blizzard unveil </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">new Hero, but we also witnessed a cracker </ins>of <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">a match for the Overwatch League Grand Final. However, it appears that it's still finding its feet when it comes to Hero balancing</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">as well as the </ins>in-<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">game store economy. Some aspects were so imbalanced that yet another Hero needed to </ins>be <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">temporarily remo</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Of course</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">single-player gets me back instantly</ins>. I love <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Overwatch’s aesthetic </ins>and it <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">plays well, even if I’m not on a level to dominate every match-up</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Being able </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">make my way through a campaign</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">flitting between heroes</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">going at </ins>my own <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">pace</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">not worrying about teammates… that all sounds like </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">ideal </ins>way <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">to play. </ins>I <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">get Agents of Mayhem vibes from it all, and as one of planet Earth’s few Agents of Mayhem defenders , that’s no bad th</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">One game mode has a bunch of Meis having </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">snowball fight; it's fun</ins>, but <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">it can be rather repetitive</ins>. The <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Yeti mode </ins>is a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">bit more interesting, </ins>with <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">one player alone as an overpowered Winston fighting </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">enemy team</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Some maps also get snow on them, which adds to </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">theme of Christmas as w</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Blizzard revealed a new Tank class Hero for </ins>Overwatch 2 <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">called Ramattra . Giving off Indian God vibes – thanks to the slight resemblance to Shiva and with 'Ram' in his name – his backstory revealed </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">close relationship </ins>with <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Zenyatta and the Omnic people</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">He comes with two different forms that </ins>can <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">be changed </ins>on the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">fly – the offensive Nemesis form which gives him access to powerful punches</ins>, and the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">defensive Omnic form that gives him a barrier </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">protect his </ins>team. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">He’ll join the roster on Decembe</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Patches are par for the course in gaming these days. While your live</ins>-<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">service behemoths are always tinkering with the meta, keeping gameplay fresh, </ins>and <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">fixing all the bugs those first two fixes cause, even the smallest single</ins>-<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">player titles come with constant post</ins>-<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">launch care these days. Day one patch is </ins>now the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">norm</ins>, and <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">while games </ins>like <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Cyberpunk 2077 which launch in historically unacceptable states benefit greatly from devs now being able </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">fix things in the wild, it’s unlikely Cyberpunk would have launched at all if the studio knew it would </ins>be <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">stuck with what it had. On </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">whole</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">patches offer a safety net that’s good </ins>to the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">industry</ins>, but it <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">sometimes feels like they take away </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">game’s personal

Overwatch 2 is free</ins>-to<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">-play</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">which some think justifies Blizzard shuttering </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">original. It doesn’t</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">but here we are</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Some Overwatch 2 players think </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">community is actually more toxic now than it was before </ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">With more players being able </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">dip </ins>their <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">toes in without any investment at all, it is possible that more are taking part just to troll oth</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">After almost a month </ins>of <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">this</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">players are calling for change</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Many are complaining </ins>that <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Zarya is </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">most overpowered Hero </ins>in <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">the game</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">and </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">most in need of a nerf</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">And unlike with other heroes</ins>, it <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">actually seems to be the Zarya mains themselves leading </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">charge</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">as they're sick </ins>and <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;"> [https://overwatch2tactics.com/ https://overwatch2Tactics.Com/] tired of playing the same Hero every ma</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Things only got worse </ins>when <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">players found out </ins>that <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">they would have </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">grind all </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">way to level 55 - which is </ins>over <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">halfway - on </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Overwatch 2 Battle Pass to get access </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Ramattra</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">much </ins>like <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Kiriko. Many accused Blizzard </ins>of <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">making </ins>it <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">so that players would need to pay for </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">premium pass </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">catch

Everything must </ins>be <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">realistic, atmospheric, </ins>and <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">other vague adjectives taken from focus groups and written on white boards. It might remain as a callback, but </ins>if <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">it does it will be an exception to </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">rule. Any of these sorts of things left in by mistake tend </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">be taken out immediately because players having fun in their own way isn’t part of </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">developers’ vision</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Any way you find to exploit something, even in a single-player experience where no one else </ins>is <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">impacted</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">is viewed as </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">mistake to be fi</ins>
I've found myself becoming more toxic because I want to win to complete the challenges</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">when I used to </del>not <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">care about winni

Patches are par for the course in gaming these days</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">While your live-service behemoths are always tinkering with the meta, keeping gameplay fresh, </del>and <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">fixing all the bugs those first two fixes cause</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">even </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">smallest single-player titles come with constant post-launch care these days. Day one patch is now </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">norm, and while games like Cyberpunk 2077 which launch in historically unacceptable states benefit greatly from devs now being able </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">fix things in the wild, </del>it’s <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">unlikely Cyberpunk would have launched at all if the studio knew it would be stuck with what it had</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">On the whole</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">patches offer </del>a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">safety net that’s good to </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">industry, but it sometimes feels like they take away a game’s personal</del>

<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Overwatch 2 is, surprisingly as </del>it <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">sounds, 2022’s surprise package for me</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">It’s just Overwatch</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">and I’ve played </del>[https://<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">overwatch2Tactics</del>.com/ <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">overwatch </del>2 <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">hero </del>guide|https://overwatch2tactics.com/] <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">before</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">so </del>I <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">shouldn’t be too shocked by any of it</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">But it has managed </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">pull me in </del>in a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">way </del>a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">lot of games I had </del>much <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">higher hopes for have failed </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">do</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">My time with Overwatch 2 won’t last forever</del>, but <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">I’ve already seen enough to know that when the single</del>-<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">player portion drops, I’ll </del>be <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">right at the front of the l</del>

Online shooters aren’t usually my thing. Overwatch having set heroes takes away from the meta and the stress of having to care about loadouts, and means you can pick to a certain extent based on personality. The reason I play as Ashe is as much because I love westerns and wry cowgirls as it is her gameplay abilities. Overwatch’s aesthetic, low barrier to entry, and quick, varied matches means it’s keeping my interest longer than other online games do. TheGamer is going to have its own Overwatch showdown soon too, so I need to keep up even if I won’t dominate the way I did on Tekken nig

<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">And of course</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">it must be said that loot boxes weren't simply disliked because they were annoying</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">A study </del>in <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">2021 also stated that loot boxes are "structurally and psychologically akin to gambling"</del>, and <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">suggested that </del>a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">third of players buying loot boxes could </del>be <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">classed as "problem gamblers". However</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">with this many </del>Overwatch 2 <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">players complaining about </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">new system put in place</del>, the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">battle pass hardly seems </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">be </del>an <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">improvem</del>

<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Patches </del>are <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">here </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">stay in gaming, </del>and <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">they are important for fixing huge errors</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">balancing live</del>-<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">service games</del>, and <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">removing online exploits being constantly abused</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">They also help games ship on time then get </del>a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">little polish here</del>, a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">little spit shine there later on</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">But it’s increasingly obvious that games are afraid </del>to <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">be imperfect</del>, and that <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">risks making them bor</del>

<del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Support playing as DPS </del>is <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">inevitable with this meta</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">though. If </del>a <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">flanking Genji or Reaper gets behind the line, you </del>have <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">to fight back, but it’s often too late if you wait for </del>that <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">moment. That means you have to be on </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">offensive</del>, or <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">you risk getting killed and being spammed with ironic ‘thanks’ and constant ‘I-need-healing’ in </del>the <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">chat</del>. <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Yeah</del>, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">I get </del>it, <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">but I was left on my own to fight the two DPS’ </del>and <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">a pushing tank. Healing the 50 damage you took isn’t high on my list of priorities right </del>

Part of the tinkering feels like vanity too. In Horizon Forbidden West , Aloy was too chatty when she was alone , remarking that items will be sent back to storage (somehow?) and repeating the same few lines over and over. People said it was annoying, so it was taken out. But surely they knew it was annoying? Surely part of the point was to make Aloy endearing in this way? I’m sure people think Aloy shutting the hell up is an improvement, but mostly it just feels like fixing something for the sake of it. It doesn’t feel like developers have the license to be creative and eccentric if a few people joking around online is enough for the studio to mandate changing the game. Gaming is becoming more risk averse, not less, in the presence of a constant safety <del style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">

Sooner or later though, I’m going to get bored. Sooner, most likely. I’ll just be done with Overwatch and I’ll tap out. We have a huge swathe of massive games set to launch between now and the end of the year , and helping Ashe move a car around a city isn’t going to keep me away from Bayonetta , Kratos , or Sonic . I’m not sure I’ll be back. Nothing against the game personally, but it has become my go-to game to rewind, even overtaking FIFA .

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Whether I bother in competitive with support is up in the air right now. It’s still a headache dealing with angry and ungrateful teammates who splinter across the map and somehow expect to get healed all at once</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">but at least now I’m enjoying the role again</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">The rush of scrambling to a critical marker to fill up their health bar while fighting back enemies is exhilarating </ins>in <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">a way you just don’t feel with DPS</ins>, and <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">the key role you play in ensuring your team’s survival is </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">wholly unique responsibility. I doubt I’ll ever </ins>be <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">a Mercy main again or voluntarily choose healer with my friends when Roadhog and Orisa are right there for the taking, but at least I know that if I gotta pick healer, I have someone I’ll actually enjoy play

Indeed</ins>, Overwatch 2 <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">did make it a lot easier to communicate with your team without joining chat. Now, even on console, you can start countdowns, point to particular areas on </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">map</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">and single out which teammate you want to send </ins>the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">ping </ins>to<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">. Ana players can even alert their team when they put </ins>an <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">enemy to sleep, ensuring no one accidentally wakes them up. It's not clear if Blizzard did this because it knows how toxic its community can get, but it sure makes things eas</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">On payload and other defend-and-attack maps, shield-based tanks </ins>are <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">now the best bet, leaving other picks less viable. It’s much harder </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">defend your team with a hook </ins>and <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">some healing juice</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">but that’s no fault of tanks like Roadhog </ins>- <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">they’re not meant to be the defenders</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">they’re there to draw aggro </ins>and <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">punish lone wolves</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">It can still work playing offense-based tanks with the right player, but it takes </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">lot of skill</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">and that means lower-ranked matches are </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">headache</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">You have to know how </ins>to <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">push, stay alive, and defend the team all at once</ins>, and <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">failing </ins>that <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">brings everyone down. Throw in a damage-focused healer and you have a constant stream of marching into the line of fire and then sitting in spectate waiting to respawn. There’s a reason team kills have become frequent enough to warrant their own challen</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">This </ins>is, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">of course, just </ins>a <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">theory on how things </ins>have <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">gotten so bad. It's possible </ins>that the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">abuse will die down as Blizzard either puts stricter measures in place</ins>, or the <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">attention dies down after the launch hype</ins>. <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">In any case</ins>, it<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">'s definitely tainting the game for many</ins>, and <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">changing how it's played all toget</ins>

Gaming is becoming more risk averse, not less, in the presence of a constant safety
I've found myself becoming more toxic because I want to win to complete the challenges, when I used to not care about winni

Patches are par for the course in gaming these days. While your live-service behemoths are always tinkering with the meta, keeping gameplay fresh, and fixing all the bugs those first two fixes cause, even the smallest single-player titles come with constant post-launch care these days. Day one patch is now the norm, and while games like Cyberpunk 2077 which launch in historically unacceptable states benefit greatly from devs now being able to fix things in the wild, it’s unlikely Cyberpunk would have launched at all if the studio knew it would be stuck with what it had. On the whole, patches offer a safety net that’s good to the industry, but it sometimes feels like they take away a game’s personal

Overwatch 2 is, surprisingly as it sounds, 2022’s surprise package for me. It’s just Overwatch, and I’ve played [https://overwatch2Tactics.com/ overwatch 2 hero guide|https://overwatch2tactics.com/] before, so I shouldn’t be too shocked by any of it. But it has managed to pull me in in a way a lot of games I had much higher hopes for have failed to do. My time with Overwatch 2 won’t last forever, but I’ve already seen enough to know that when the single-player portion drops, I’ll be right at the front of the l

Online shooters aren’t usually my thing. A study in 2021 also stated that loot boxes are "structurally and psychologically akin to gambling", and suggested that a third of players buying loot boxes could be classed as "problem gamblers". However, with this many Overwatch 2 players complaining about the new system put in place, the battle pass hardly seems to be an improvem

Patches are here to stay in gaming, and they are important for fixing huge errors, balancing live-service games, and removing online exploits being constantly abused. They also help games ship on time then get a little polish here, a little spit shine there later on. But it’s increasingly obvious that games are afraid to be imperfect, and that risks making them bor

Support playing as DPS is inevitable with this meta, though. If a flanking Genji or Reaper gets behind the line, you have to fight back, but it’s often too late if you wait for that moment. That means you have to be on the offensive, or you risk getting killed and being spammed with ironic ‘thanks’ and constant ‘I-need-healing’ in the chat. Yeah, I get it, but I was left on my own to fight the two DPS’ and a pushing tank. Healing the 50 damage you took isn’t high on my list of priorities right

Part of the tinkering feels like vanity too.
